Biographical Note

John Henry Roskelley was born October 30, 1886 in Smithfield, Utah to Samuel and Mary Jane Rigby Roskelley. In 1906, he left Smithfield to serve a five-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. After returning to Utah, he married Hannah Favell Buck on September 20, 1911 in Logan. He worked for forty-five years for the Amalgamated Sugar Company, as a labor agent and field supervisor in Ogden, Cache Valley, and Nampa, Idaho. Roskelley died January 17, 1972 in Nampa, Idaho.

Content Description

This collection contains five diaries of John H. Roskelley from his mission to Japan from 1906 to 1911 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The collection also contains copies of the diaries on CD and microfilm. Also included is mission memorabilia, including an expense account, a Japanese magazine, a Christmas program, and Japanese writings.
