Historical Note
The work and funding for A Literary History of the American West was made possible through a research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and sponsored by the Western Literature Association. Augustana College, South Dakota, served as the business office and Utah State University served as the editing office for this project. J. Golden Taylor (1912-1982) served as editor in chief and Thomas J. Lyon served as senior editor. A Literary History of the American West is (as the title suggests) a 1,353-page book analyzing literature from the American West.

This five-box collection contains the drafts of A Literary History of the American West. The drafts consist of a rough, edited, revised, and corrected version.
