Historical Note
Military training for the students of USU began soon after the college was
established and in fact between 1892 and 1955 military science was compulsory for
male students. The Reserve Officers' Training Corp began on campus in 1916 and
(although it was dropped briefly in WWI) by 1950 USU was described as, "The West
Point of the West" with about 2200 cadets. In 1948 ROTC was divided into air corps,
quartermaster corps, and the coast artillery. Eventually these programs became the
Air Force ROTC and the Army ROTC.

worth it. Almost everyone came back with more self confidence (that 1.
they could stand a night in the mountains and or 2. they could hold
their booze--me an exception). The group wouldn't have stood a chance
with Clint Hayes as Co., the 1972-73 Co. G-9 P.R.s were a mean,

guess it may develop a different style. (To you who get it going next, I
wish you luck and the courage to show your own personality in some thing
that is all too many cases a sterile work of pictures, news articles and
commentary.) Yeah, that's me there with my bike I got 10,000 miles on it

wonderful not to be walking alone anymore. Bye! R.E. Hamilton." Spring
