Biographical Note

Design Workshop, Inc. is a leading international landscape architecture firm founded in 1969 by Joe Porter and Don Ensign while they were professors at North Carolina State University. Both received bachelor's degree from Utah State University in 1963 in landscape architecture. Other USU graduates that joined the firm were Richard Shaw, Todd Johnson and Terrall Budge. The firm's projects range from private gardens to resort development. The design teams are highly praised for their innovative use of attractive features while having the least impact on the site's ecology and natural views. Although based in Denver, Colorado the firm has offices in Asheville, North Carolina; Aspen, Colorado; Austin, Texas, Lake Tahoe, Nevada; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

In addition to various awards received by Design Workshop Inc., in 2008 the firm was named the top landscape architecture firm in the country by the American Society of Landscape Architects. For additional information, please refer to Design Workshop, Inc.'s website at
