The DeWitt/Palmer Family photograph collection
consists of 104 black & white photographs copied out of an old family photo

the 1870s to the 1930s (with a few dating to the 1940s) and consist mainly of portraits
and snapshots of the family. Included are recreation shots taken in Logan Canyon
(fishing, hunting, and skiing) and of Soda Springs, Idaho.

Biographical Note
Aaron DeWitt (1833-1923) was among the first settlers of Logan in 1859. He was a
prominent early businessman and farmer and apostated from the LDS Church around 1873. He
was involved with the founding of the St. John's Episcopal Church and running a bakery
in Logan. In 1860 he married Sarah Jenkins and the couple had two children, Hyrum James
and Emma Irene Griffith DeWitt (who died shortly after birth).
Content Description
The DeWitt/Palmer Family photograph collection consists of 104 photographs copied out of
an old family photo album. This album was loaned to the division by Erin Palmer of
Logan, a descendant, in 1993 or 1994. As it turned out, not every photograph was copied
out of the album. The information in this register is taken from captions penned onto
the original prints.
The photographs date from the 1870s until the 1930s, and consist mainly of snapshots of
the family. Included are recreation shots taken in Logan Canyon (including fishing,
hunting, and skiing) and of Soda Springs. Some of the women's names may seem confusing,
as there are photographs of them both before and after marriage (e.g., "Emma" appears
both as Emma DeWitt and Emma Palmer, her married name).
