Summary
This collection consists of 158 photos which were taken and gathered by the head of the Geology Department, Dr. Clyde T. Hardy. Its contents include many aerial photos of Northern Utah and Southern Idaho, natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcanoes, and geologic formations. Other images included are of Bryce, Yosemite, and Glacier National Parks taken in the early half of the 20th Century and photographs from Dr. J. Stewart Williams, the first Geology Department Head and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.

Biographical Note

Clyde T. Hardy was born in Freemont, Ohio on April 23, 1921. He taught geology at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. He served as Geology Department head from 1967 to 1982. He died October 13, 1998 in Logan, Utah.

Dr. J. Stewart Williams was the first Head of the Geology Department and later the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Utah State University.

Content Description

The Clyde T. Hardy photograph collection consists of 158 photos which were taken and gathered by Dr. Hardy when he was head of the Geology Department at USU. Its contents include many aerial photos of Northern Utah and Southern Idaho, natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcanoes, and geologic formations. Other images included are of Bryce, Yosemite, and Glacier National Parks taken in the early half of the 20th Century and photographs from Dr. J. Stewart Williams, who preceded Dr. Hardy in the Geology Department. Also included are a 1958 reel of "Super 8" motion picture film from the U.S. Department of Agriculture about volcanoes, and a 16mm reel of the Mauna Loa eruption of 1950.
