Biographical Note
Bartlie Temple Cardon was born in Logan, May 8, 1885, the son of Thomas B. and Lucy
S. Cardon. After graduating from the city public schools, he attended Brigham Young
College and Utah State Agricultural College. He graduated from the Illinois College
of Optometry in 1911. Cardon was well-known for his involvement in early local
affairs. Since 1914 he managed the Cardon Jewelry Company, an institution which for
many years had been recognized as one of the leading stores of its kind in the state
of Utah. He served as president of the Logan Rotary Club, chairman of the merchant's
committee of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, and director of the Logan Home Building
Society. He also had a particular interest in local high school and college athletic
teams and organizations, and followed closely the accomplishments of each. Cardon
married Jennie Murdock on November 22, 1905. Together they had two sons and four
daughters. Jennie passed away on May 27, 1950, and a year later he remarried Lettie
Turner Rasmussen. Cardon died from a sudden heart attack on April 7, 1952. He was 67
years of age.
Content Description
The photographs in this collection reflect Cardon's interest and involvement in local
affairs. Most of them consist of views of popular locations in Logan, including the
Mormon Tabernacle, the Mormon Temple, Utah State Agricultural College, the Island,
and Logan Canyon. Also included are photographs of the 1924 Jim Bridger Centennial
Celebration and photographs of the Johann Paulson Funeral in 1925.
