Overview of the Collection
Biographical NoteWinslow Farr Smith, son of John Henry Smith and Sarah Farr, was born in Salt Lake City on January 19, 1881. From 1902 to 1905, Winslow served a mission in Switzerland and Germany. Ordained a member of the Seventy in 1906, he served as president of the Northern States Mission in Chicago from June 8, 1919 to February 1, 1923. Winslow taught Sunday school in the 18th Ward in Salt Lake City and was ordained a high priest in 1924, prior to serving as president of the Ensign Stake in Salt Lake City from 1924 to December 8, 1940. Smith worked as a salesman for J.G. McDonald Candy Co. in 1902 and with the Salt Lake Knitting Works until called to the Northern States Mission in 1919. Winslow was vice-president and his brother George Albert Smith was president of Libby Investment Company, Salt Lake City in 1937. On June 7, 1906, Winslow married Emily Whitney, daughter of Orson F. Whitney. In 1919 their three children were Whitney, Dorothy, and Virginia. The holograph journals document his LDS mission to Germany, 1902-1905, and continue through 1941. Financial records include personal finances and those of the Libby Investment Company, a family concern headed by George Albert Smith. Use of the Collection
