Historical Note

The War Production Training records were created during the tenure of George Dewey Clyde ( See also, MS 176, Papers of George D. Clyde) who served as Dean of the School of Engineering from 1938 to 1945. Clyde became a member of the Utah State Agricultural College (USAC) faculty in 1923.

Content Description

This collection deals almost totally with the training of military personnel on campus. Between 1940 and 1944, the college became a hub of activity for War Production Training. Some of this was undertaken prior to the outbreak of WW II, and some afterwards. Some of the training occurred under programs offered by the federal government and War Department, while others received funding from the state. Programs represented here include the National Youth Administration (NYA); Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP); Engineering, Science, Management War Training Program (ESMWTP); and the National Defense Training Program, and War Production Training Program, both operated by the Utah State Board of Vocational Education, with federal funds.
